Ottoman Sultans transported one of the carpet weaving centers distinguished for its superior craftsmanship to the Marmara coast. The Hereke carpet worksshop were thus established in 1891 to weave carpets for the palace exclusively. Consequently carpets produced there have been among the finest examples in the history of carpet weaving. Natural flowers and bouquets are permanent patterns in Hereke carpets.

Pure Silk Kayseri and Hereke Carpets

Silk carpet weaving is one of the most difficult branches of this craft. Breeding silkworms, obtaining silk from the cocoon, producing threads by spinning somewhat 800 silk fibers by hand, dying and preparing it for weaving, drawing the design and applying it to the loom require a long process.

From the 15th up to the 18th century one of the most famous and prestigious manufacturers of the Ottoman Era worked in Ushak. Until today, the so called Ushaks are very much in demand. They are made entirely by hand using %100 of the finest wool only. The double knotting technique and the finest workmanship has resulted Ushak carpets to win the USA's finest carpet award recently.

There are only a handful of Ottoman Pera looms today, which bring the extraordinary, rich and amazing world of these precious paintings to walk on consisting of knots, finest wool and silk into people's reach.
